“Share and Share
Alike”
This photo made me smile this week. These are the children of Brady and
Aubrey Yee, and they are in their Rome/Tuscany album on Brady’s Facebook page –
lots of photos of buildings and then this pretty pastoral scene.
New this week are Maryanne Gautreau and Scott Underhill.
Maryanne Gautreau is my first cousin
once removed, daughter of Lionel and Anne Marie (Holmes) Gautreau. I met
Maryanne and her sister, Angela, at a reunion at the farm about fifteen years
ago or so. They have both relocated to western Canada since that time. What a
wonderful, fun couple of young ladies they were, and I knew them both by their
giggles, even though I wasn’t expecting them. How that memory of their
grandmother stayed with me, I am not sure, but they sounded like her to me.
They fit right in like a comfy glove. Miss you at our get-togethers, Maryanne
and Angela.
Scott Underhill is in the Charles R
Holmes line; a son of Bill and Glenyce (Swan) Underhill. I haven’t met him in
person yet. I have been watching Scott’s comments lately at the
high school where he teaches Physical Education in Maine, and I’m impressed
with what I see. Telstar High School appears to be posting all their grads, and
his encouraging comments for his students is awesome.

My hearty gratitude to Marie (Holmes) Dockter, who volunteered to collaborate
with me this summer with our Holmes genealogy.

My genealogy goals for
this week were:
·
Chronicle several times, and publish on Thursday morning.
·
Keep researching and writing
about Daniel Holmes for the “Where There’s a Will” article.
·
Complete the William Holmes
line for the Lincoln Historical Society when FTM is fixed.
·
Continue indexing old New
Brunswick obituaries and death notices for the NBGS website project.
·
Get ready to scan Uncle Billy’s
guest book for the NBGS website.
·
Revisit “Fairfield” of CCC.
·
Spend a bit of time on Moore
family research.
·
Plan a genealogy outing to
Portage Vale for a Saturday in June, which won’t take any work except for sending
out some emails and finding out which is the best day with a rain day just in
case, as we will be traipsing through cemeteries. Local folks will be invited
to visit the newly cleared out pioneer cemetery of our ancestors.
For both the “Where There’s a Will” article and CCC – Westmorland
County, I present to you the will of Daniel Holmes, dated February 8, 1883. It
is not in his own handwriting, but signed by him near the bottom. We know from
his newspaper death announcement that he was quite ill preceding his death, and
his signature is certainly not the neat and tidy handwriting of the 1771
enumerator, Daniel Holmes.
Our summer Portage Vale genealogy group will meet on June 17th,
weather permitting. I extend an invitation to anyone in the vicinity to join us
as we visit the “new” really old pioneer cemetery, cleaned up and repairs done
by PV resident, Terry Bannister. Our ancestors Isaac and Mary Elizabeth
(Ketchum) Ketchum are now standing straight and tall. I am going to post on the Anagance &
Portage Vale Facebook group that we will be there, and residents can join us if
they wish. We will meet afterwards for lunch.
Here’s a photo of us from a pre-pandemic visit:
Left to right: Cliff Marks, John Elliott, Richard and Sandi Thorne,
and moi.

Congratulations to our
Graduates
Congratulations to Ashley Yee, graduated of Dublin High School in
Dublin, California. Ashley plans to attend Las Positas College in Livermore,
California, in the fall. Ashley is the daughter of Jeff and Jennifer (MacLean)
Yee, and she is in the William Holmes line.

A
Reference to Francis Holmes
I am inserting two links for my future
reference, because they were difficult to find. At Ancestry is this resource:
Page viewer 20: “The Paddock Genealogy” by Robert Joseph Curfman, 1977.
https://www.ancestry.ca/imageviewer/collections/12592/images/dvm_GenMono001815-00001-0?pId=2000000000
The author quotes “The Paddock Family”
compiled by Hiram Lester Paddock c. 1910 at Family Search. Page viewers 93 and
94.
Holmes family researchers might like to
have a look at them and tell me what you think. You need to have an Ancestry
account and a free Familysearch account.
Dig deep, my genealogy friends. Ask yourself about the who, what,
when, where, why, and how of your sources. I am very suspicious, but I consider
all sources. You genealogists and historians might like to take a peek and tell
me if and why you agree with this parentage of Francis Holmes or share my suspicions.
